Gleason’s Bible

Bible Mine

TODAY it happened: I finally have a Bible like Gleason’s. Gleason was one of the best Sunday school teachers I’ve ever had. He had a way of weaving together everyday life and the Bible. I wanted a Bible like Gleason’s.

Obviously, he had the best reference Bible available. His vast knowledge of the Bible poured out of his as he taught. As he started class each Sunday morning, he would clutch his Bible in his right hand. One time, a page fluttered this way and others floated that way.

The cover was worn off. Gleason’s Bible was falling apart from use. However, Gleason could teach our class as he did not because he had a particular study Bible but because he studied the Bible he had.
Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God’s word is full of living power. We can experience this spiritual power as we read the Bible and let its message sink into our soul. Then when trouble comes and we search for answers, the Bible will lead us to life-giving insights. The more we read our Bibles, the more wear and tear they show.
So today it happened. After 30 years of use, the cover of my Bible fell off. Finally I have a Bible like Gleason’s.
